Sales Lab – Test Methods

Sales has created a real in-house laboratory capable of carrying out complex tests on materials, adhesives, shapes, colours and, in general, all the elements needed to design a label that meets the customer’s expectations of functionality.

The aim is to be able to offer a service that allows all stability and conformity tests to be carried out at the packaging design stage to avoid unexpected problems arising later.

This is ensured by the machinery and equipment we can make available to the customer such as:

  • Cutting plotter to produce the required die-cut templates
  • Adhesion Tester for testing the adhesive properties of different materials
  • Solar Box to test inks’ ability to withstand UV exposure
  • UV Tester to check the amount of detectable varnish on the label
  • Light Box to simulate different light sources and check the expected colour match
  • Climatic Chamber to subject the label applied to the packaging to humidity and temperature, testing its resistance
  • Semi-automatic labelling machine to simulate the application phase and verify the possibility of correct label dispensing
  • Densitometer and Spectrophotometer to perform all colourimetry analyses

These are the main tests that Sales is able to perform:

1. TEST Printing with digital silkscreen SILK without die-cut

The test includes:

  • The search, using the spectrophotometer/densitometer, for the best possible match to the reference (sample/Pantone) provided
  • the creation of a light/dark tolerance fork
  • the production of an approved colour folder
  • a report containing the permitted ΔE deviation values

2. Printing test with traditional technique

The test includes:

  • the search, using the spectrophotometer/densitometer, for the best possible match to the reference (sample/pantone) provided
  • the creation of a light/dark tolerance fork
  • the production of an approved colour folder
  • a report containing the permitted ΔE deviation values

3. Colour Shifting TEST

The test involves:

  • display the colours printed on the labels inside the Solar Box laboratory machine
  • measuring, by means of the spectrophotometer/densitometer, the measurement of deviations and verification of the tightness of the inks to sun exposure
  • a report containing the detected ΔE deviation values.

4. Manual Application and Stability Tests

The test includes:

  • selection of the material(s) deemed most appropriate
  • printing of the required decoration with digital SILK screen printing and die-cutting (separate plant cost)
  • die-cutting with the required or proposed template (or several templates) on a cutting plotter
  • application on a sample bottle supplied by the customer
  • exposure to temperature/humidity for 48 hours in a climatic chamber
  • Detailed report containing the technical specifications of the tested product and its results.

5. Semi-automatic application and stability tests

The test includes:

  • selection of the material(s) deemed most appropriate
  • only case b: printing of the required decor with digital SILK screen printing and die-cutting (separate plant cost)
  • die-cutting with the required or proposed template (or several templates) on a cutting plotter
  • application to sample bottle supplied by the customer with a semi-automatic Etipack labelling machine
  • exposure to temperature/humidity for 48 hours in a climatic chamber
  • Detailed report containing the technical specifications of the tested product and its results.
